Smiles transcend boundaries, USTM and Smile train’s mission to transform lives

The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) joined hands with Smile Train, crafting an emotional tapestry at the USTM campus in 9th Mile, Khanapara. The Meghalaya Smiles Campaign unfolded with a sea of nearly 2000 students, each becoming a beacon of hope for children born with clefts. Founder Chancellor of USTM, Shri Mahbubul Hoque, spoke passionately about the inclusive haven USTM embodies. “USTM is more than a campus; it’s a family that embraces all,” he expressed, as smiles lit up faces around him.

Anjali Katoch, Head of Communications and Business Development at Smile Train India, conveyed gratitude to the USTM students for their potential in shaping brighter futures. “These students have the power to transform lives through their empathy and support for free cleft surgeries,” she shared, reflecting on the profound impact of their collective compassion.

Dr Werlock Kharshiing, Smile Train Partner Surgeon and Chairman of Woodland Hospital, Shillong, shared touching stories from their 17-year journey. The Meghalaya Smiles event, featuring quizzes, games, Phawar performances, a flash mob, and the screening of ‘Smile Pinki,’ symbolized a journey of compassion, transcending barriers to bring smiles to those who need them the most.
