Skill India ushers in an entrepreneurial revolution in Sikkim: Shital Tamang inspirational journey

The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is transforming youth and women into providers through their flagship scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), which has trained over 1.5 crore youth since 2015. The government is committed to empowering the NariShakti across various industries, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

An inspiring story of Shital Tamang, founder of M/S Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts, has turned her passion for handloom products into a skill development and employment venture. She received training under the Skill India Mission from 2014 to 2017, and her entrepreneurial venture began in 2017.

Shital aims to create a sustainable future using eco-friendly practices. She has integrated dry plants like cardamom into her production process, demonstrating commitment to sustainability. Today, Shital leads a team of twenty, providing employment and contributing to community development. She was honored at Republic Day celebrations and praised the Skill India Mission for enhancing skills and problem-solving abilities. She expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and MSDE for transforming her life. Shital Tamang, with a monthly income of Rs. 210,000, aspires to expand her enterprise, explore new markets, and positively impact more lives, focusing on socio-economic growth and environmental consciousness.
