Arunachal Deputy CM Mein joins Nyokum Yullo Festivities, announces state’s development vision

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein graced the vibrant Nyokum Yullo celebration at the festival ground in New Pitapool under Yachuli Circle as the Chief Guest today. The Nyokum Yullo festival, deeply rooted in agricultural traditions, showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Nyishi community through a myriad of cultural performances and rituals. Addressing the gathering, Mein commended the Nyishi Community for their dedication to preserving and promoting their ancestral traditions and age-old cultural practices. He stressed the importance of embracing modernization while safeguarding indigenous heritage, urging everyone to celebrate traditional festivals with fervor and enthusiasm.

During his speech, the Deputy CM highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s notable economic achievements. He noted a remarkable rise of 136% in the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and a surge of 104% in per capita income over the past eight years from 2016-17 to 2023-24. Mein reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Developed India by 2047 and affirmed the state government’s commitment to realizing this vision through active participation. Mein further elaborated on the significant progress made in various sectors, particularly connectivity and border security. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to bring development in border regions on par with foothill areas. He announced several ongoing projects, including the Frontier Highway, Vibrant Village Program, and Border Village Illumination Program, aimed at accelerating development in border areas.

The Deputy CM also announced the imminent inauguration of the much-awaited Sela Tunnel by PM Modi on March 9th. This groundbreaking project, encompassing two tunnels and 8.780 km of approach road, will be the world’s longest bilane tunnel at an elevation of 13,000 feet upon completion. Additionally, Mein congratulated the people of Yazali and Yachuli Circles on the establishment of a new district, Keyi-Panyor, foreseeing rapid development and increased employment opportunities in the area. He disclosed plans for a 300 megawatt hydropower project on the upper stream of Panyor River, urging NEEPCO officials to expedite the preliminary survey.
