Nissan plans to commercialize its autonomous-drive mobility services in Japan

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has announced its roadmap to commercialize its autonomous-drive mobility services in Japan, a significant step towards its long-term vision, Nissan Ambition 2030. The company aims to solve transportation service issues faced by local communities, such as driver shortages due to an aging population. Nissan has been testing business models for mobility services in Japan and abroad since 2017, including the Minato Mirai area of Yokohama and Namie town, Fukushima Prefecture.

Nissan plans to begin offering autonomous-drive mobility services starting in fiscal year 2027*2, working with third parties such as local authorities and transport operators. Trials will begin in fiscal 2024 in the Minato Mirai area and scale up the trials the following fiscal year.

The timeline includes driving tests in fiscal year 2024, service demonstration tests in fiscal years 2025 to 2026, and aiming to start providing services in three to four municipalities, including rural areas, with tens of vehicles in fiscal year 2027. This initiative will be promoted in close cooperation with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and other central ministries.
