Palm oil holds an important place in the global agriculture

Palm oil, derived from the oil palm tree’s fruit, is a versatile and widely used vegetable oil with a significant role in the global agricultural and food industries. Indonesia and Malaysia currently account for over 85% of the world’s palm oil supply, with cultivation in 42 additional countries. The Malaysian palm oil industry operates within a framework of stringent regulations, currently encompassing over 15 laws and regulations, focusing on minimizing environmental impact.

Dr. Meena Mehta, an Associate Professor currently working at S.N.D.T Women’s University, believes that palm oil is a sustainable and versatile natural resource that plays a crucial role in nourishing the world. She emphasizes its efficiency in food production, contribution to economic growth, and rural development. By embracing responsible practices, palm oil can be harnessed to create a healthier, more prosperous future for all.

Its unique balanced fatty acid composition makes it ideal for high-temperature cooking and is also used in personal care items like soaps, shampoos, and cosmetics. Palm oil is a rich source of essential nutrients, including vitamin E and Provitamin A, which are crucial for maintaining good health and supporting immune function. These antioxidants contribute to its use in various food products, meeting dietary requirements and promoting overall well-being.
