Tata Electronics plans to establish greenfield semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam

The Indian government has approved a proposal by Tata Electronics to build a greenfield semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The proposed facility is strategically located with access to abundant water and green power, a key sustainability consideration for the Tata Group and its customers globally.

Tata Electronics has already invested in indigenous technology development for these platforms and has assembled a credible team with over 1,000+ years of global domain experience to drive the project. The facility, which will cost INR 27,000 crore, is expected to generate over 27,000 jobs in the region. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran of Tata Sons expressed confidence that the project will have a transformational impact on technology-led industrialization and job creation in the Northeast.

The construction of the facility is scheduled to start this year, with the first phase operational by mid-2025. The project is envisioned under the Government of India’s Semiconductor policy, driven by the India Semiconductor Mission and the Government of Assam’s Electronics policy.  Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics Private Limited, believes that this investment will put India on the global semiconductor manufacturing map and spur a complete domestic ecosystem for high-technology manufacturing while enabling the indigenous product ecosystem.
