8th Northeast Green Summit sets Arunachal aglow with environmental stewardship

In Arunachal Pradesh, the 8th edition of the Northeast Green Summit, organized by VIBGYOR N.E. Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, illuminated the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly with discussions on “Resetting Earth: Inching Towards Net Zero Emission Region.” Attended by a diverse spectrum of experts, decision-makers, entrepreneurs, and representatives from across the nation, the summit served as a beacon for green economic models, wildlife conservation through community engagement, and the adoption of sustainable technologies.

Acknowledging Arunachal Pradesh’s status as one of the world’s top ecological hotspots, minister Mama Natung expressed pride in hosting the summit in a region renowned for its biodiversity. He emphasized the collective responsibility to nurture environmental stewardship for a greener future. Chief Guest Shri PD Sona and other dignitaries underscored the necessity for unified action to combat climate change and preserve natural heritage. Dr. Rajdeep Roy commended the state’s efforts, particularly the “Airgun Surrender Abhiyan,” highlighting the importance of such initiatives.

The summit featured panel discussions, technical sessions, and workshops covering a wide range of topics, from climate change mitigation to indigenous tribe technologies. Notable sessions included the People Biodiversity Register Orientation Programme and the screening of green documentaries at Aranyani-The Docufest. Ms. Bitapi Luhoe emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate the transition to a green economy, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
