In a major success under the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign Operation Dawn 2.0, the Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 55.05 grams of suspected heroin in a coordinated operation in the Borum-Doimukh region near Papu Hills. Acting on reliable intelligence inputs about illicit drug activity in the area, a police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo, launched a targeted raid on Monday. He was assisted by Inspectors Torum Mai and Bobby Sumyan, along with constables Sachin K. Rao, Sonam Namgey, and Pisa Tavak. The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS.
During the operation, police first intercepted a suspicious individual near the Borum Bridge. The suspect, later identified as Soriful Islam, 41, a resident of Chandmari in Lakhimpur district of Assam, was detained and questioned. His interrogation revealed valuable information, which quickly led the team to a second location in Doimukh. Based on the fresh input, a follow-up raid was conducted at a house in Doimukh. There, the team arrested the main accused, Techi Bharat, 26, a local resident. A thorough search of his residence and person, conducted as per legal procedures, led to the recovery of 39 vials containing a total of 55.05 grams of suspected heroin.
A case has been registered at Papu Hills Police Station under Case No. 48/25. The accused have been booked under Sections 21(b) and 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both individuals are currently in police custody and further investigation is underway. Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo praised the swift and professional response of the police team, highlighting the commitment of the Arunachal Pradesh Police in curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse through Operation Dawn 2.0.
