Fuel Prices Go Up: Petrol, Diesel Costlier by ₹3 Nationwide

Petrol and diesel prices were increased across India on Friday after oil marketing companies announced a hike of ₹3 per liter for both fuels. The price revision comes after fuel rates remained unchanged for several months, with the government keeping prices stable ahead of recent state Assembly elections.

Officials said the increase follows rising pressure from elevated global crude oil prices and the weakening of the Indian rupee, which have increased fuel import costs.

This is the first fuel price hike since March 21, 2025, and the revised rates have come into effect immediately across the country.

While the hike is uniform nationwide, the final retail prices vary from city to city depending on local taxes, VAT rates, and transportation costs.

Following the revision, petrol and diesel prices have crossed key price levels in several major cities, adding to concerns over transportation costs and inflation.

The latest increase is expected to impact household budgets and logistics expenses, as higher fuel prices often lead to a rise in the cost of goods and services.
