Jet stream cold waves are continue to trigger cold breeze over North India for upcoming days, as per IMD

Cold waves like jet stream of the order of 140 to 160 knots at 12.6 km above the centre of the sea level are ascending over the plains of North India Region. Hence, it leads to the caving of cold air and enhanced cold wave with cold day conditions over North India Region, as per the reports obtained from India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

As per IMD, the intensity of the Jet Stream is likely to continue during the next five days. The weather agency further informed that dense to very dense fog and cold to severe cold conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during the next 4 to 5 days. Apart from this, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely to continue over the plains of Northwest India during the next 5 days.

In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD predicted that light to moderate rainfall in isolated to some places very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim and Northeast India on 17th and 18th January, 2024 respectively.

Apart from this, isolated hailstorm is likely over Sikkim on January 17, 2024. Cold day to severe cold day conditions are also very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh during 17th to19th January 2024 and cold days in some parts on 20th and 21st January, 2024.
