Assamese action-thriller Sikaar receives the Best International Film-Directors award

The 11th Rajasthan International Film Festival (RIFF) 2025 saw the Assamese action-thriller Sikaar receive the Best International Film-Directors award, making history. Featuring Adil Hussain, Urmila Mahanta, and Zubeen Garg, the film has received praise for its impressive cinematic execution and compelling plot. Sikaar, which was produced by Sam Bhattacharjee and Mitra Bhattacharya and directed by Debangkar Borgohain, is the highest-budget Assamese film ever produced, bringing the local industry to a global level.

At the festival in Jodhpur, Debangkar Borgohain received the Best Directed International Film award, marking another milestone for Assamese cinema. Speaking about the film’s success, producer Sam Bhattacharjee remarked, “Sikaar has been recognized in many places because of its unique nature. The best movie from Assam is yet to come.” Various sources now indicate that, according to the present-day cost sheet, the movie’s budget is over ₹15 crore—far exceeding the earlier reported figure of ₹3 crores.

Bhattacharjee clarified that the ₹3 crore figure only covered the expenditure for shooting in India and did not reflect the overall budget. By setting a new benchmark with its groundbreaking budget, international accolades, and forward-looking vision, Sikaar has redefined Assamese cinema and inspired a wave of ambitious projects for the future.
