CMRS Inspects Phase II Trains; Chennai Metro Services to Begin in February

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has conducted an inspection of trains for Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II project, paving the way for the launch of passenger services next month. In a slight change from the original plan, train operations on the 15.8-km stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani are now scheduled to begin in February.

Earlier, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) had planned to start services between Poonamallee Bypass and Porur Junction by the end of January, before extending them to Vadapalani in February. However, authorities have opted to open the entire stretch together to ensure smoother operations.

The final CMRS inspection before commencement of services is expected to take place in the last week of this month. Once operational, the new corridor is expected to improve connectivity and provide early integration with the existing Phase I network, offering commuters better travel options and reduced congestion.
