Mao community marks Thanksgiving Festival in Kohima with vibrant cultural celebrations

The Thanksgiving festival of the Mao people, Chüthüni 2026, took place at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, under the theme “Treasuring Traditions, Celebrating Identity,” organized by the Mao Union Kohima. The celebration highlighted cultural unity and pride, with participation from community leaders, elders, and invited guests. Losu Dikho, MLA of the 48th Mao Assembly Constituency, emphasized the importance of maintaining traditions while adapting to progress and acknowledged the contributions of various community leaders. Helievio Solo, Chairman of the Kohima Village Council, spoke on the need for unity and cooperation among communities for collective growth. Messages from attendees like Heshu Choro and Sibo Nekhini stressed cultural preservation alongside development. The event featured an informative segment on Chüthüni, celebrated for its significance as the premier festival of the Mao people, marking a five-day observance rich with rituals and social activities that foster community bonds. The cultural segment showcased folk songs and traditional dances, reflecting the artistic heritage of the Mao community.
