Assam government, Walmart Vriddhi formalise strategic MoU to fast-track MSME digital growth

In a strategic move to strengthen Assam’s MSME ecosystem, Walmart Vriddhi, through its program partner Ideas to Impact Foundation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises, Government of Assam. The collaboration aims to accelerate growth, capacity building and digital empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the state.

The MoU supports Walmart Vriddhi’s national commitment to empower an additional 100,000 MSMEs in India by 2028. Under the programme, MSMEs in Assam will receive free-of-cost training, mentoring and business tools to modernise operations, scale efficiently and participate in eCommerce, including on platforms such as Flipkart. The state government will enable structured outreach through District Industries Centres to deepen program penetration.

The initiative will focus on high-potential sectors including bamboo, cane, handloom and food processing, with initial implementation in Kamrup, Sonitpur, Cachar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Jorhat. Commissioner M.N. Dahal stated that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to expanding technology adoption and sustainable enterprise growth. Jason Fremstad of Walmart International emphasised enabling small businesses to scale and compete in the digital economy.

Launched in 2019, Walmart Vriddhi has trained over 70,000 MSMEs nationwide.
