Ambuja Cements, Adani Foundation kickstart football initiative to boost rural sports ecosystem in Assam

Ambuja Cements, the world’s ninth-largest building materials solutions provider and part of the diversified Adani Portfolio, along with the Adani Foundation, has launched a football promotion programme in Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, aimed at strengthening grassroots sports development and empowering rural youth. The initiative, rolled out across Borolokhindong, Tharvelangso and Chotolokhindong villages, seeks to address the infrastructure gap faced by aspiring footballers in rural areas of the North-East, where the sport holds strong cultural significance and continues to gain popularity among young people.

Under the programme, Ambuja Cements supported 81 rural youths, including 54 boys and 27 girls, by improving playground facilities and distributing sports kits to enable structured football training. The initiative is designed to provide young players with the resources and environment required to develop their football skills and actively participate in sports.

The programme has also encouraged greater participation of girls in sports, fostering inclusivity and strengthening community engagement in sporting activities.

With better access to training facilities and equipment, several participants are now exploring opportunities to compete at the district level, opening pathways for potential competitive careers.
