Veteran N. Rangasamy Leads New NDA Cabinet in Puducherry

In a significant moment for the political landscape of the Union Territory, veteran leader and All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) founder, N. Rangasamy, was officially sworn in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for a historic fifth term this Wednesday, May 13. The ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter for the AINRC-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, which successfully retained power following the recent Assembly elections.

The formal proceedings were overseen by K. Kailashnathan, who administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Rangasamy. Opting for a traditional start to his tenure, the Chief Minister took his oath in the name of God. The swearing-in ceremony was not just a solo milestone but a coalition event, as two other key leaders were inducted into the council of ministers: Malladi Krishna Rao of the AINRC and A. Namassivayam representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a nod to the linguistic diversity of the region, Malladi Krishna Rao, the representative for Yanam, took his oath in Telugu. The event saw a high-profile turnout, with senior BJP figures, including Nitin Nabin and B. L. Santhosh, in attendance to show national support for the local administration.

The transition of power follows the NDA’s victory in the elections held on April 9. Following the formal declaration of results, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Mr. Rangasamy to lead the government. With the cabinet now taking shape, the administration is expected to move quickly to address the developmental goals promised during the campaign trail, signaling a period of continuity and renewed focus for the people of Puducherry.
