Proposed Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh to Drive Data-Based Development Planning: Pema Khandu

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the proposed Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh (ITA) is steadily moving forward through active cooperation between the state government and NITI Aayog.Describing the initiative as an important step towards evidence-based policymaking and long-term planning, the Chief Minister said the institute would help shape development strategies suited to the unique needs of Arunachal Pradesh.In a post on X, Khandu said the proposed institute would function as a dedicated state-level policy think tank that would provide strategic direction and support long-term developmental planning based on the geographical, cultural and economic realities of the frontier state.

“For long, we have strongly advocated the need for a dedicated state-level policy think tank that can provide strategic direction, evidence-based policymaking, and long-term developmental planning tailored to Arunachal Pradesh’ unique geographical, cultural, and economic realities,” the Chief Minister said.Khandu also thanked NITI Aayog member Dr Joram Aniya, Chief Executive Officer Nidhi Chhibber and other officials associated with the initiative for their support and commitment towards the state’s development journey.Officials said the proposed ITA is expected to function as a specialised policy and research institution that will assist the state government in preparing data-driven policies, monitoring developmental indicators, strengthening governance systems and designing sustainable growth strategies.

The institute is also expected to support long-term planning in sectors such as infrastructure, tourism, hydropower, entrepreneurship and border area development.Arunachal Pradesh has in recent years increased its focus on infrastructure expansion and economic growth, while also working closely with NITI Aayog on initiatives related to aspirational districts, innovation ecosystems and youth empowerment.NITI Aayog, the Centre’s apex public policy think tank, plays a major role in supporting states in policy formulation and development planning through a cooperative and collaborative approach.
