The Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association (APUTA) has once again urged the authorities to increase the retirement age of university teachers from 60 to 65 years, saying the change would bring the university in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines and the practice followed by most universities across the country.
A delegation of the association, led by its president Dr Eli Doye and general secretary Dr Lige Sora, met Arunachal Pradesh University Vice Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi at his chamber in Pasighat on Thursday and reiterated its longstanding demand.
During the meeting, the association reminded the Vice Chancellor that it had submitted a memorandum to the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university, on October 30, 2025. However, it said there has been little progress on the issue over the past 10 months.
According to APUTA, the present retirement age of 60 years at Arunachal Pradesh University is not in line with the recommendations of the UGC and differs from the retirement policy followed by a majority of central and state universities.
The association said increasing the age of superannuation would help the university retain experienced teachers, strengthen academic leadership and ensure continuity in teaching, research and administrative work. It also said the move would allow senior faculty members to mentor younger teachers and research scholars, contributing to the overall academic development of the institution.
Responding to the delegation, Vice Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi assured the association that the matter would be taken up positively and pursued with the appropriate authorities at the earliest, according to a statement issued by APUTA.
The association expressed hope that the long-pending demand would receive due consideration and lead to a decision that would benefit both the university and its academic community.
