The cries of death have echoed in the sky once again! At least 14 people lost their lives in a horrific plane crash. This tragedy occurred on Friday when a special military aircraft crashed in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Congolese administration has confirmed that several top military officials of the country were among the deceased.
According to reports, the aircraft was flying from the southwestern city of Kikwit towards the capital, Kinshasa. However, after encountering a sudden technical glitch mid-air, an attempt was made to make an emergency landing in Kenge, Kwango province. Due to the absence of a designated runway or landing strip in that area, the plane crashed violently into a residential area and was completely destroyed.
Major General Efraim Ekenge, spokesperson for the Congolese military, stated that all passengers on board died tragically on the spot. The aircraft caught fire immediately upon the heavy impact, leaving the bodies of 12 passengers charred beyond recognition. Meanwhile, the pilot’s body was recovered some distance away from the wreckage.
Remy Saki Bokinda, the Deputy Governor of Kwango Province, informed that the deceased included members of a high-level government delegation travelling with two military generals, as well as several civilians. The military administration has launched a high-level investigation to determine the exact cause of this heartbreaking accident. The crash of the military plane has cast a deep shadow of grief across the region in the mineral-rich Central African nation, which has been plagued by armed rebel attacks for decades.
