The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a significant majority in the recent elections held on December 15, winning a substantial number of seats in both the Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats. The party notably triumphed in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections, claiming victory in 14 out of 20 wards, which underscores its electoral strength in the state.
In contrast, the regional People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) managed to secure a win in the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), capturing five of the eight wards, while the BJP obtained two seats and an Independent candidate won one. According to the final results released by the State Election Commission, the BJP succeeded in winning 170 out of the 245 Zilla Parishad seats, of which 59 were uncontested, solidifying its dominance in the local governance structures at the district level.
The PPA emerged as the second-largest party with 28 seats, while the Congress party garnered seven seats. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his gratitude towards the electorate for their support of the BJP during the panchayat elections, emphasizing the commitment of the party’s workers. Khandu conveyed his thanks through social media, highlighting the dedication of party karyakartas and vowing to ensure a stronger, more prosperous, and self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh under the leadership of the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
