SIT Steps Up Hunt for Absconding Former ICR Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case involving former Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom has said that Potom is currently absconding and that efforts to trace him have been intensified. This was stated by SIT Superintendent of Police Shivendu Bhushan. He said it would be premature to comment in detail on the progress of the investigation but confirmed that all angles are being examined and search operations are underway. The Gauhati High Court’s Itanagar Permanent Bench quashed Potom’s bail on January 23.

Earlier, Potom had been granted bail on November 4 last year after being remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on October 27. Prior to his arrest, he had been serving as Special Secretary (PWD) in New Delhi after being transferred from the ICR. Potom was arrested in connection with the suicide of 19-year-old Gomchu Yekar in Lekhi village on October 23, 2025. In his suicide note, Yekar had named Potom and engineer Likwang Lowang (now deceased). Potom has been booked for abetment to suicide under Sections 108, 271, and 272/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing.
