Nagaland Govt Directs Removal of Unapproved Symbols from Vehicle Number Plates

The Nagaland transport department has mandated that all vehicle owners in the state remove unauthorized symbols from their number plates, as per a directive from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This enforcement aligns with Rule 50 and Rule 51 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which dictate the format, display, and size of vehicle registration plates. Vehicle owners, both governmental and private, are given 45 days to comply with the removal of any unauthorized flags, emblems, names, symbols, stickers, seals, and logos from their registration plates, or face strict penalties. Officials have noted that many drivers improperly display unauthorized emblems and names on their plates. As part of this enforcement, vehicle owners are also warned against using ‘fancy’ fonts, unclear lettering, and decorative designs to ensure compliance with the established standards for registration plates.
