The Arunachal Pradesh police, in coordination with their Assam counterparts arrested a 33-year-old man from Assam’s North Lakhimpur district for allegedly duping people with the promises of pharmacy and business licences.
Police officials on Monday said that the accused, Debojit Sharma, a resident of Bihpuria, was apprehended from Pithaguri in Mazgaon following over a year of surveillance.
Sharma had been on the run since 2023 after allegedly cheating several people in Doimukh and Naharlagun by collecting money on the pretext of facilitating pharmacy and other business licences in exchange for substantial sums of money, police said.
He was arrested in connection with Naharlagun Police Station case number 106/25 under Section 318(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
After committing the alleged offences, Sharma fled the Itanagar Capital Region in 2023 and had reportedly been evading arrest by frequently changing his location and mobile numbers.
The operation was carried out by a police team led by sub-inspector N Rama.
The accused has been produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Naharlagun, and remanded to judicial custody.
