Arunachal Mithun Farmers Get Boost as ICAR Launches Fodder Support Program

The ICAR-Arunachal Pradesh Centre in Leparada district has provided assistance to mithun farmers in Siang district by providing Hybrid Napier root slips for the creation of special fodder plots, which is a major step towards bolstering sustainable mithun rearing in Arunachal Pradesh. The Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmer Federation (JMMFF) provided the assistance with the goal of producing dependable and high-quality green fodder resources for mithuns. Additionally, the campaign aims to motivate farmers in the state to progressively implement semi-intensive mithun raising techniques.

Since Arunachal Pradesh has the largest mithun population in the nation, scientific management and conservation of the animal are essential for both cultural preservation and the security of livelihood. High-yielding fodder crops like Hybrid Napier are anticipated to ease the strain on forest grazing areas, improve animal nutrition, and boost overall output, according to officials. On behalf of the federation and Siang district mithun farmers, JMMFF chairman Tadang Tamut welcomed the initiative and thanked senior scientist Joken Bam and ICAR-AP Center Head Dr. Doni Jini for their ongoing encouragement and support in advancing sustainable mithun husbandry in the area.
