Fuel Prices Stay Stable: On May 2, gas and diesel prices stayed the same in major cities.

Despite swirling rumors of an imminent price surge following the conclusion of assembly elections, petrol and diesel rates in India have remained unchanged as of May 2, 2026. While commercial LPG prices recently saw a sharp nationwide hike of approximately ₹993, State-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have opted to keep retail fuel prices frozen to shield consumers from current inflationary pressures. In the national capital, Delhi, petrol continues to retail at ₹94.77 per litre, with diesel priced at ₹87.67. Meanwhile, Mumbai maintains the highest rates among the four major metros, with petrol selling at ₹103.54 and diesel at ₹90.03. Other key cities also reported steady figures, with Bengaluru at ₹102.99 for petrol and Hyderabad recording one of the steeper rates at ₹107.46.

The next few weeks will be crucial for energy pricing as the global supply chain negotiates these regional challenges, so travelers and everyday commuters are urged to stay informed through verified government portals.
