State Review Applauds OBB and SDR Initiatives for Upgrading Rural Healthcare Standards

Senior officials of the Meghalaya government have conducted a comprehensive progress review of major healthcare programs designed to elevate medical service delivery across the state. The high-level meeting assessed the impact of the World Bank-backed Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP), Operation Broader Benefit (OBB), and the Safe Delivery and Referral (SDR) initiative.

The review was chaired by Dr. Sampath Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, and Dr. Joram Beda, Commissioner and Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, alongside MHSSP Project Director Ramakrishna Chitturi. During the session, officials lauded the exceptional performance of the $50 million MHSSP initiative. The project has successfully hit 16 of its 17 core result indicators while registering a commendable 83 percent fund utilization rate, which notably outpaces this year’s designated target.

In addition to MHSSP, the evaluation highlighted the success of the OBB initiative. Financial disbursements deployed through OBB over the past three months have directly enhanced healthcare delivery, steering state medical facilities closer to securing National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification.

Concurrently, the SDR initiative was recognized for its continued success in improving maternal and child health parameters throughout rural and urban regions. Officials concluded that the synchronized execution of these projects underscores the state government’s overarching commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to all citizens of Meghalaya.
