Howrah’s education sector received a major boost after students from the city secured top international positions in the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) Olympiad examinations for the academic year 2025–26, underlining the growing demand for competitive and skill-oriented learning in the region.
The SOF Olympiads recorded participation from millions of students across 72 countries, including over 22,000 participants from Howrah, reflecting the expanding market for international academic assessments and Olympiad-based education.
Leading the achievement from the city, Amitesh Bera of Class 5 from PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Santragachi secured International Rank 2 in the National Science Olympiad (NSO). The student received a silver medal along with Certificates of Outstanding Performance and Distinction.
The achievers were honoured at the 28th SOF International Annual Award Ceremony at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi in the presence of Supreme Court Judge Justice Vijay Bishnoi. Other dignitaries included Prof. Y. S. Rajan, CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, IAS, and Dr. Praveen Gupta.
SOF Founder and Director Mahabir Singh said the Olympiads continue to encourage critical thinking, analytical ability, and academic excellence among students. Industry observers said such achievements are strengthening Howrah’s academic ecosystem and encouraging schools to invest further in global competitive learning platforms and talent development initiatives.
