The two-day 21st Chirang District Inter-Club Athletics Championship-2026 commenced today at the Salbari Shanti Committee playground in Kajalgaon, the headquarters of Chirang district. Organized under the initiative of the Chirang District Sports Association, the two-day athletics meet was officially inaugurated with the hoisting of the association’s flag by Joyanta Basumatary, President of the Chirang District Sports Association and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.
More than two hundred competitors from the Kajalgaon and Bijni subdivisions of the district are participating in this championship, which features events for boys and girls under the age categories of 14, 16, 18, and 20. Events such as running, long jump, high jump, discus throw, shot put, and javelin throw are being held during the competition.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Joyanta Basumatary, MP and President of the Chirang District Sports Association; Niman Brahma, Observer Representative of the Assam Athletics Association; Chandra Kanta Brahma Narzary, Working President of the Bodoland Sports Association; Santoram Basumatary, In-charge President of the Bijni District Sports Association; and Kamaleswar Rai, General Secretary.
