Jihad Will Not Work in Assam, Explosive Remarks by Minister Ashok Singhal

Minister Ashok Singhal has reacted sharply to the alleged ongoing ‘jihad’ in Assam. The minister said, “There is no place for jihad on the land of Maa Kamakhya. This thing called jihad will not work in Assam. How can we accept something like jihad which is not in our character.”

Minister Singhal said that Assam’s culture, heritage and social values are founded on peace, harmony and coexistence. He made it clear that no kind of extremist or divisive ideology will be encouraged in the state.

His remarks have triggered a fresh debate in the state’s political circles. Various sections have expressed their views on the minister’s statement. While some have supported the remarks, others have termed it a political statement.

It may be noted that Minister Ashok Singhal’s comments carry special significance amid growing discussions in recent times over ‘jihad’ and ‘love jihad’ in the state.
