She is just 15 years old, but with the dominance of her bat, a teenage cricketer from Bihar has already become the talk of the town. With a destructive innings of an unbeaten 306 runs in the Under-19 Women’s One Day tournament, Akshara Gupta has drawn the attention of cricket lovers across the world.
Akshara played this record-breaking innings on Thursday at the Sandys Compound Ground in Bhagalpur in the Bihar Cricket Association’s Women’s Under-19 One Day Trophy competition. Akshara scored 306 runs off just 126 balls, an innings that included 55 fours and 8 sixes.
Adopting an aggressive approach right from the start of the innings, Akshara completed her half-century in just 16 balls. After that, the Bihar Under-19 women’s team captain displayed explosive batting to reach her century in 34 balls. Her strike rate was 242.86.
A resident of Raxaul in East Champaran district, Akshara Gupta has emerged as one of the most talented faces of women’s cricket in Bihar. The 15-year-old cricketer has also earned the distinction of being the first woman cricketer from Bihar to participate in four consecutive BCCI women’s competitions in the past two years.
Expressing satisfaction over Akshara’s performance, Bihar Cricket Association President Harshvardhan said that women cricketers from Bihar have been consistently bringing laurels to the state with their performances. Association Secretary Ziaul Arfin also congratulated Akshara.
It may be noted that earlier, a teenage cricketer from Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, had also drawn global attention with his performances. At just 15 years of age, Vaibhav earned a place in the Indian team and has recently begun his journey in international cricket.
After Vaibhav, Akshara Gupta’s explosive innings has now created new hope in Bihar women’s cricket.
