Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and MP from Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, Gaurav Gogoi, visited various flood-affected areas in Upper Assam to take stock of the situation and interact with the victims.
The Congress leader reviewed the flood situation in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.
He also visited the flood-affected residents of Borbam Tea Estate under the Nazira Assembly constituency and interacted with the local people to understand their hardships.
Residents alleged that nearly 400 families in the Borbam Tea Estate have not received any government relief for the past four days. Not even a single representative from the government or local administration has visited them so far.
Expressing deep concern over the allegation that nearly 400 families in Borbam Tea Estate have not received any government relief for the past four days, Gogoi urged the government and district administration to immediately provide official relief, including essential items such as safe drinking water, ration and medicine to the affected families.
The MP also visited the residence of Nisharani Duwarah and Nirupama Duwarah—a mother and daughter who tragically lost their lives after being swept away by strong flood currents in Rajapool Duwar — and extended his condolences to the bereaved family members.
Furthermore, the APCC president visited Garmur under the Mahmara constituency and distributed relief materials among flood victims.
Gogoi appealed to citizens, social organisations and party workers to stand by the flood-affected people with a sense of humanitarian responsibility.
“Only if everyone steps forward collectively can we provide genuine relief to the affected families during this severe crisis,” he said.
Gogoi was accompanied by Sivasagar District Congress president Ajay Gogoi, Charaideo District Congress president Utpal Gogoi, APCC general secretaries Udit Bhanu Das and Subhamitra Gogoi, senior Congress leader Pallabi Saikia, along with several other district Congress office-bearers.
It may be mentioned that Gogoi had on Tuesday visited the residences of Sonia Paharia and Sushmita Mirdha—two teenage girls who lost their lives in the overflowing waters of the Daijan River at Panbari Tea Estate under Titabor constituency—to offer his condolences to their families.
Additionally, the MP visited the home of another teenage girl currently undergoing treatment following the same incident to inquire about her health.
