SBI Funds Management Limited (SBIFM), India’s largest asset management company, made a steady debut on the stock exchanges on July 21, listing at a 6.8% premium over its issue price of ₹574 per share. The stock opened at ₹613.30 on the NSE and ₹610 on the BSE following a mega ₹9,813 crore Initial Public Offering that saw an overall subscription of 41.66 times. Speaking after the ceremonial listing event, Managing Director and CEO Debasish Mishra outlined an ambitious growth roadmap, stating that SBIFM aims to bring 100 million new investors into the mutual fund fold over the next five years. Highlighting that only about 10 crore people out of India’s 140 crore population currently maintain investment portfolios, Mishra emphasized the immense headroom for expanding financial inclusion across urban and rural markets. A joint venture between State Bank of India and French asset manager Amundi, SBIFM currently manages over ₹12.5 lakh crore in quarterly average mutual fund assets. To achieve its targets, the newly listed entity plans to leverage SBI’s vast network of 53 crore banking customers—of which only 5.5 lakh currently invest in SBI mutual fund products—to cross-sell investment schemes while strictly abiding by regulatory guidelines on banking operations. The company also intends to expand its fund management team and strengthen digital channels to maintain its market leadership.
