BNP Paribas Cardif has announced its decision to acquire a 26 per cent stake in IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company from Warburg Pincus, subject to regulatory approvals. The transaction marks a significant development in the Indian insurance sector and strengthens BNP Paribas Cardif’s presence in the country.
Following the completion of the deal, IndiaFirst Life’s shareholding structure will comprise Bank of Baroda with a 65 per cent stake, BNP Paribas Cardif with 26 per cent, and Union Bank of India with 9 per cent.
According to a joint statement by the companies, the partnership aims to accelerate IndiaFirst Life’s next phase of growth by combining Bank of Baroda’s extensive branch network, IndiaFirst Life’s multi-channel distribution capabilities, and BNP Paribas Cardif’s global expertise in bancassurance, product innovation, and insurance solutions.
Pauline Leclerc-Glorieux, Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Cardif, said the transaction aligns with the company’s international growth strategy of partnering with strong institutions in high-potential markets. She added that BNP Paribas Cardif would use its global experience in bancassurance and partnerships to support IndiaFirst Life’s expansion and improve access to insurance products for customers across India.
The acquisition represents another step in BNP Paribas Cardif’s diversification strategy and reinforces its commitment to the growing Indian insurance market. The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for innovation and strengthen IndiaFirst Life’s position in the competitive insurance sector.
