India Deepens Energy Footprint in Indian Ocean Region with Mauritius Fuel Agreement

In a landmark strategic move, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has signed a five-year agreement with Mauritius’s State Trading Corporation (STC) to supply the nation’s total import requirement of motor spirit, high-speed diesel, and aviation turbine fuel. Signed in the presence of India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the contract guarantees long-term supply security for Mauritius while shielding the island nation from international price volatility. Marking the first long-term fuel supply contract concluded by an Indian public sector oil marketing company outside South Asia in recent years, the partnership establishes India as Mauritius’s anchor fuel supplier and significantly enhances New Delhi’s economic and strategic presence across the Indian Ocean region. Backed by an annual output of 267 MMT across 23 refineries, India’s position as a major global refining hub and net exporter of refined products ensures a reliable, robust energy pipeline for Mauritius over the next five years.
