The Union Cabinet has approved the revamped Khelo India Scheme and an enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSFs) scheme with a total allocation of ₹36,441 crore for the period from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
The government has described the initiative as India’s most ambitious sports development programme since Independence. The expanded scheme aims to strengthen the country’s sports ecosystem by supporting athletes at every level, from grassroots development to elite-level training.
The programme is also focused on advancing India’s long-term sporting goals, including preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the country’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With increased funding and expanded support, the initiative is expected to provide a major push to sports infrastructure, talent development and athlete training across India.
