Tax Filing Deadline Extended: What the New November 21 Date Means for Businesses and Audited Firms

Taxpayers who must get their accounts audited under the Income-tax Act for Assessment Year 2026-27, including eligible partners of firms requiring an audit, have received a major relief as the Central Board of Direct Taxes extended their ITR filing deadline by 21 days from 31 October to 21 November 2026, though non-audit taxpayers must note that this extension does not apply to them and they must follow their standard due dates, with the extra three weeks offering businesses handling large transactions and detailed records the time required to complete pending audit procedures, match figures between financial statements, balance sheets, and tax disclosures, and review income, expenses, and deductions carefully to ensure absolute accuracy, urging eligible taxpayers to make the most of this extension by clearing pending self-assessment taxes, checking for applicable interest under Sections 234A and 234B, and arranging all documentation early to ensure a seamless and compliant filing experience.
