Restoration work on the vital Dikhu-Chuchuyimlang road has commenced through a joint initiative involving Longleng and Mokokchung districts, with the route expected to serve as an alternative connectivity lifeline for Longleng following repeated disruptions caused by natural calamities.
Before the work began, a delegation comprising Longleng Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, Phom Peoples’ Council president Y.B. Angam Phom and LEMSACHENLOK team leader Dr Y. Nuklu Phom held consultations with the Chuchuyimlang Village Council, which extended its cooperation for the restoration project.
The road, originally constructed by the forefathers of Chuchuyimlang village, has reportedly been maintained by the village council through community self-reliance without government assistance.
A prayer programme was also held at Dikhu Bridge before the commencement of restoration work, led by Dr Nuklu Phom.
Manpai Phom stressed the urgency of restoring the route, while the Chuchuyimlang Village Council, Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang, Unger Village Council and Phom Peoples’ Council expressed support for the initiative.
Once restored, the road is expected to provide Longleng with a shorter route towards Kohima, improving access and facilitating the movement of essential supplies and emergency services during periods of disrupted connectivity.
