In view of the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, the Assam State Election Commission has extended the validity of its earlier notification regarding the maximum number of ‘star campaigners’ who may participate in election campaigning.
The Assam State Election Commission had, through a notification in September last year, fixed the maximum number of ‘star campaigners’ for various political parties for the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election. However, the said election was not held in 2025.
In this context, through a fresh notification, dated August 29, 2026, the Assam State Election Commission has decided to extend the validity of the earlier notification dated September 25, 2025, for the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation Election.
In connection with the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, 2025, the Assam State Election Commission had issued several guidelines regarding star campaigners of political parties. These guidelines were issued in accordance with the provisions approved by the Election Commission of India and adopted by the Assam State Election Commission.
According to the Commission’s notification, a recognised national or state political party may nominate a maximum of 20 star campaigners. On the other hand, a registered unrecognised political party may nominate a maximum of 10 star campaigners.
As per the notification, the concerned political parties must submit the list of their star campaigners to the District Election Authority within seven days from the date of issuance of the election notification. At the same time, a copy of the said list must also be submitted to the Assam State Election Commission.
Furthermore, political parties seeking permission for election campaigning by their star campaigners must submit an application to the District Election Authorities at least 48 hours before the scheduled start time of the campaign event.
