Renault appears to be preparing a significant powertrain update for the Triber, with reports suggesting that the popular MPV could finally get a turbo-petrol engine in India. The new version is expected to arrive around September or October 2026, with some reports pointing towards a launch by the end of September.
The possibility of a turbocharged Triber was first reported in April, when sources suggested that Renault was considering introducing the engine option before the end of the year. The expectation grew after the updated Triber was launched in 2025, but the model continued with its existing naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Even the latest 2026 version of the Triber, which arrived with a few updates, did not get the anticipated turbo-petrol motor. However, subsequent reports have once again indicated that Renault could launch the turbo version during the September-October period.
Under the bonnet, the Triber is expected to use Renault’s HR10 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The same powertrain is available with the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger and develops around 100 hp and 160 Nm.
The engine could be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while a CVT automatic transmission may also be available. The higher torque output is expected to benefit the Triber, especially in terms of acceleration and load-carrying capability.
The turbo speculation gained further momentum after a Triber test mule was spotted in Pune. The vehicle was seen with a Turbo badge on the tailgate as well as a CNG sticker on the rear windshield.
The combination has raised the possibility of Renault working on a turbo-CNG version of the MPV. If it reaches production, the Triber would become Renault’s first turbo-CNG model in India.
For now, Renault has not officially confirmed the launch date, engine specifications or transmission options for the turbo Triber. However, the latest reports and test mule sighting suggest that the new powertrain could be introduced in the Indian market soon.
