A total of 52,551 electors have been removed from Sikkim’s electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), resulting in an 11.16 per cent reduction in the state’s voter count, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. The final electoral roll now contains 4,18,467 eligible voters, down from 4,71,018 in the pre-SIR list. The draft roll published in July had 4,33,294 electors, with 3,61,159 successfully mapped to their own or parents’ electoral details from previous qualifying rolls or the last SIR. The remaining 72,135 voters could not be mapped, while 52,384 mapped electors were flagged by the Election Commission’s system for “Logical Discrepancies”. A total of 1,24,519 electors from the unmapped and discrepancy categories were issued notices and given an opportunity to establish their eligibility through hearings. Following verification, 16,485 electors were found ineligible, while another 324 were deleted through Form 7 due to reasons including death or relocation. In total, 16,809 electors were removed during the claims and objections process. Subsequently, 1,982 electors were restored to the final roll after their claims were accepted. The final electoral roll comprises 2,12,534 male voters, 2,05,931 female voters and two third-gender electors. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said those dissatisfied with decisions taken by the Electoral Registration Officer can appeal against the orders.
