Political tension continues to simmer across the country over allegations of ‘vote theft’ and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Amidst this, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again lashed out at Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Following a crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in New Delhi, the opposition leader launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission and the ruling BJP.
Questioning the role of the CEC, Rahul Gandhi stated, “The Chief Election Commissioner cannot function without protection. Gyanesh Kumar is being protected by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. The CEC must go; his resignation is certain. Prime Minister Modi himself will make Gyanesh Kumar resign. We must go to the people. Now, 80 percent of the people believe that the claim of vote theft is true.”
Meanwhile, just before the ‘INDIA’ bloc meeting, the Congress Working Committee demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In a special resolution passed during the meeting, the party demanded the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the suspension of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in several states, and the reinstatement of over 13 crore voters whose names were allegedly removed. The CWC resolution explicitly alleged that the Election Commission carried out this “shameless vote theft” to serve the interests of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, making the resignations of both top leaders essential to save constitutional democracy.
Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal informed that this issue will be strongly raised in the ‘INDIA’ bloc meeting scheduled for Wednesday. With the goal of protecting the country’s democracy, the Congress is planning to unite all opposition parties and prepare a final roadmap for a nationwide mass movement against vote theft.
