Pandughat Immersion Committee Reconstituted Ahead of Durga Puja

In the Jalukbari Police Station area, where around 85 small and big public Durga Pujas, the highest within Guwahati city, are held, the Puja celebration committees have started preparations to ensure that the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja is celebrated smoothly in accordance with the rules and regulations laid down by the police and administration.

In parallel, a general meeting was held today at the Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Auditorium at Maligaon Boripara under the joint initiative of the Pandughat Immersion Committee and Jalukbari Police Station to ensure that idol immersion can be conducted in an orderly manner in the Brahmaputra at Pandughat, which is considered one of the major immersion ghats in Guwahati, on Vijaya Dashami and the day after.

The meeting was presided over by Nimai Chandra Das, President of the Pandughat Immersion Committee, and the objective was explained by General Secretary Dwijen Lahkar.

Attending the meeting, Officer-in-Charge of Jalukbari Police Station Amrit Singha gave a detailed explanation about the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja as well as the immersion of idols in the Brahmaputra, the measures to be taken by the celebration committees during the puja days, and urged everyone to follow the rules and regulations laid down by the city police administration to ensure smooth conduct of the puja.

The meeting was attended by more than a hundred representatives including Presidents and Secretaries of Durga Puja celebration committees under Jalukbari Police Station, several office bearers and members of the Pandughat Immersion Committee including Working President Shyamal Bhattacharya, several GMC Councillors, Piyal Shankar De, Ashish Sarkar, Sudesh Kumar Jain (Munna), Nirod Roy, Achyut Rajbongshi, Paresh Thakuria, Shikha De, Pratima De, Itima Ahmed, as well as several office bearers of the Nagarik Samiti and Village Defence Party.

Meanwhile, in the meeting it was unanimously decided to reconstitute the Pandughat Immersion Committee for the upcoming term with Nimai Chandra Das as President, Shyamal Bhattacharya as Working President, and Dwijen Lahkar as General Secretary.

It may be mentioned that this time, as per the instructions given by the district and police administration, construction of pandals by blocking roads and playing DJ after 10 pm will be prohibited. During that time, the puja celebration committees will only be allowed to play devotional music.
