Tripura CM Manik Saha Directs Fast-Track DPR for New Medical College at Jolaibari

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has emphasized building necessary infrastructure and ensuring advanced healthcare services to implement the initiative of setting up a new medical college at Jolaibari in South Tripura district under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK).

A meeting was held today in Conference Hall No. 2 of the Secretariat with the aim of setting up the proposed medical college based on the Shantirbazar District Hospital. In the meeting, the Chief Minister advised the concerned officials to quickly prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and to take necessary steps to start the project work as soon as possible.

At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary to the Chief Minister Kiran Gitte, through a pictorial presentation, presented before the Chief Minister the plan for the proposed medical college under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, infrastructure requirements, the current situation of Shantirbazar District Hospital and various aspects of project implementation. Thereafter, the Chief Minister examined various aspects of the project and gave necessary advice to the concerned officials.

In the meeting, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said that importance should be given to developing the Jolaibari area as a well-planned township centered around the proposed medical college at Jolaibari. Not only construction of medical college and hospital, but necessary facilities should also be built to ensure overall development of students and an environment for advanced education. He said that the need to include facilities like yoga centre, auditorium, football field and indoor badminton hall in the proposed infrastructure needs to be considered. He also advised the concerned officials to ensure necessary facilities for students, doctors and other staff.

The Chief Minister further said that the infrastructure of the proposed medical college should be planned in such a way that it is modern, effective and scientifically well-planned. Equal importance should be given to every aspect — the college’s education system, quality of medical services, hospital infrastructure and necessary facilities for patients. He took detailed information from the concerned officials about various aspects of the project and gave necessary advice.

The meeting also discussed increasing the scope and capacity of health services at Shantirbazar District Hospital. Emphasizing the expansion of hospital services, the Chief Minister said that along with the plan to set up the medical college, the development of the infrastructure and medical services of the present hospital should also be taken forward in an integrated manner. The plan to have 100 students per academic year in the proposed medical college also came up for discussion in the meeting.

This initiative of setting up a medical college at Jolaibari can play an important role in expanding advanced healthcare services and increasing opportunities for medical education in South Tripura. Keeping that goal in mind, the Chief Minister emphasized proper preparation and coordination at every stage of project planning, infrastructure construction and implementation. He advised the concerned departments and officials to take necessary initiatives to submit the DPR quickly and start further work.

The meeting was attended by Minority Welfare Department Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, Director of the Department Nirmal Adhikari, District Magistrate of South Tripura and other senior officials of various concerned departments. They put forward their opinions and suggestions on various aspects of the proposed medical college establishment and related infrastructure development.
