Mumbai Police Directs Actor Imran Khan to Leave India Prior to October 28

Actor Imran Khan, who is an American citizen and OCI cardholder, has been served a formal notice by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in Mumbai instructing him to exit India by October 28, a move triggered by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya’s complaint accusing the actor of breaching OCI provisions and immigration guidelines by joining an illegal political agitation at August Kranti Maidan alongside roughly 400 demonstrators demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over electoral roll revision issues, an event that led to the brief detention of Khan, his girlfriend Lekha Washington, his mother Nusrat, and his niece Zayn—who alleged police manhandling and displayed bruises afterward—after which Somaiya approached the Gamdevi police station with video proofs of Khan’s speeches and remarks, urging authorities to investigate his conduct and questioning whether a foreign national holding an OCI card should indulge in political agitations or display political extremism.
