One person has been arrested in connection with a viral video allegedly containing criminal intimidation against members of the Zeliang community in Nagaland. The accused, identified as 40-year-old Nur Bahadur Chettri, a resident of Jotsoma in Kohima district, was apprehended by Kohima Police with assistance from Peren Police. Authorities said further investigation is currently underway. The case originated from a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Nagaland Zeliang Youth Organization at Jalukie Police Station against an unidentified individual. The complaint included charges of criminal intimidation, promoting enmity between groups, and issuing death threats against members of the Zeliang community.
According to the FIR, a man in a viral social media video, identifying himself as “Nepali,” claimed to have killed a Zeliang individual and disposed of the body in a river. Meanwhile, the Peren District Gorkha Union has also filed a separate FIR at Jalukie Police Station against an unknown individual from the Gorkha community. The organisation alleged that the video has unfairly implicated the community and created fear among its members. In the FIR filed on April 15, PDGU president Thul Bahadur urged the police to take swift action to identify and arrest the person responsible, while condemning the use of the district’s name in the video.
