Arunachal Athletes Impress on World Stage as Chera Loku Clinches Silver in Taijiquan Championship

Arunachal Pradesh athlete Chera Loku brought pride to the state and the country after winning a silver medal while representing India at the 5th World Taijiquan Championships held in Burgas, Bulgaria. Loku competed against top athletes from 38 countries and delivered a strong performance to finish on the podium at the international championship. Her achievement has been widely praised by sports bodies and members of the Wushu community in Arunachal Pradesh. Another athlete from the state, Mepung Lamgu, also performed well in the championship and secured the fifth position in the competition. Sports officials said the result showed the growing strength of athletes from Arunachal Pradesh in international martial arts events. The All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association (AAPWA) congratulated both athletes for their performances and said their achievements reflected years of hard work, discipline and dedication.

AAPWA general secretary John Tara Bakey said Loku’s achievement was the result of her determination and continuous effort over the years. He said her journey from training at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy to becoming a world-level medallist would inspire many young sportspersons in Arunachal Pradesh and across the country. He said the silver medal was not only an important personal achievement for Loku but also a proud moment for the state’s sporting community. According to him, the success of athletes from Arunachal Pradesh at an international event showed that local players have the ability to compete with some of the best athletes in the world when given proper support and training opportunities. Bakey also praised Mepung Lamgu for finishing in fifth place at the championship. He said the performance was equally commendable and reflected the improving standard of athletes from the region in international competitions.

The association further acknowledged the contribution of coach Maibam Premchandra Singh, who guided the Indian contingent during the championship. Officials said his leadership and coaching played an important role in helping the Indian team secure multiple medals at the event. The achievement of the Arunachal athletes has once again highlighted the growing presence of northeastern sportspersons in international martial arts competitions. Sports enthusiasts and members of the Wushu fraternity in the state expressed hope that the success of the athletes would encourage more young people to take up the sport and aim for international platforms.
