This election has been marked by a direct and violent contest between the TMC and the BJP, led in the state by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari formerly a close assistant of Banerjee. Adhikari’s challenge has been particularly significant in high- profile constituencies like Bhabanipur, adding to the drama of the counting day.

The election also followed a controversial Special ferocious modification (SIR) of electoral rolls, which saw a large number of Namer elisions, adding another subcaste of political pressure. piecemeal from the two প্রধান contenders, the Congress and the Left Front are also in the fray, aiming to recapture misplaced ground after failing to win any seats in the 2021 choices. A new entrant, led by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, has further complicated the political geography.

The West Bengal Assembly comprises 294 seats, with 148 needed for a maturity. In the last election in 2021, the TMC secured a dominant 215 seats, while the BJP won 77, arising as the top opposition for the first time. Mamata Banerjee, despite losing her seat in Nandigram to Adhikari, latterly returned to the Assembly through a bypoll from Bhabanipur.

As counting continues, attention remains fixed on whether the BJP can convert its early leads into a decisive accreditation, or if the TMC can carry a comeback. The outgrowth is anticipated to review the state’s political line after a fiercely queried and high- stakes election.
