Specialists from Gurugram-based Medanta – The Medicity have stressed that nearly 90 per cent of heart-related deaths can be prevented through healthier lifestyle choices, amid rising concerns over increasing cardiovascular diseases among younger people in India. Padma Shri awardee Dr. Praveen Chandra said sedentary lifestyles, long working hours, stress, irregular sleep and unhealthy eating habits were contributing significantly to heart diseases among young adults. He noted that conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity were now being detected at earlier ages.
“Small but consistent lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, balanced eating, stress management and avoiding smoking can significantly reduce the chances of serious heart conditions,” Dr. Chandra said. Dr. C Manpa Phom said even moderate activities like walking for 45 minutes four to five times a week, along with proper sleep and stress reduction, could help maintain heart health.
The doctors also highlighted India’s advancement in cardiac care, stating that treatment facilities in the country now match global standards. They stressed that prevention and awareness remain the most effective tools in reducing cardiovascular disease. Medanta has signed an MoU with the Government of Nagaland for accreditation under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme and has also partnered with IDAN to promote health awareness in the state.
In Dimapur, healthcare awareness and preventive cardiac consultations are seeing growing demand as urban lifestyles and work-related stress increase among residents. Private hospitals and diagnostic centres in the city have also witnessed rising interest in specialised heart care services and wellness consultations. Nagaland residents can consult Dr. C Manpa Phom from Dr. Praveen Chandra’s team at Faith Hospital, Dimapur, on May 23, 2026, from 9 am to 1 pm. Medanta has also launched a dedicated North East helpline to assist patients with appointments and healthcare support in multiple regional languages.
