Sikkim MP Demands Urgent Repair of Singtam-Dikchu and National Highway Corridors

Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba met with the Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in New Delhi to address critical connectivity issues plaguing the state. The high-level meeting, held at the BRO Headquarters, focused primarily on accelerating road restoration projects. Subba emphasized that re-establishing stable infrastructure is a matter of immediate urgency for the region’s socio-economic stability and national security.

A primary focus of the discussion was the urgent restoration of the Lachen route, a vital corridor for locals and defense personnel alike. The MP conveyed that the Sikkim government, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, views the revival of this route as a top-priority objective. Subba referenced a recent high-level state meeting where the prolonged disruption of the Lachen route was flagged as a major governance concern requiring immediate federal intervention.

Beyond the Lachen sector, the MP pressed for the rapid repair and maintenance of multiple National Highways and crucial road stretches across Sikkim. Among the key infrastructure corridors highlighted was the Singtam-Dikchu road, which requires extensive rehabilitation. By urging the BRO to fast-track its operations, Subba aimed to ensure that Sikkim’s lifeline roads are made fully resilient against geographic vulnerabilities, ultimately restoring seamless connectivity for the citizens of the Himalayan state.
