Vedanta Limited has invested more than $1 billion in net-zero transition initiatives during FY26, focusing on renewable energy, lower-carbon fuels, energy efficiency and technology-driven decarbonisation. The company said its renewable energy utilisation increased 52 per cent year-on-year to 4 billion units in 2025-26, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 3 crore Indian households. Vedanta currently has nearly 2,000 MW of installed and contracted renewable energy capacity and aims to reach 2.5 GW of round-the-clock renewable energy capacity by 2030. The company said its decarbonisation initiatives helped avoid approximately 3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions during FY26, while greenhouse gas emissions intensity across its metals and mining operations declined by around 14 per cent from the 2020-21 baseline. The investment comes as India pursues its broader clean-energy goals, including 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070. Vedanta said the transition will also support growing demand for metals and minerals needed for renewable energy, power grids, storage and electrification infrastructure.
